Thank you for your interest in joining the 2026 Mountains for Medicine CAPSTONE Ride and Ministry Trip to Africa! This outreach trip will have 2 primary arms of engagement through the 475 mile cycle from Nairobi, Kenya to the Sports Outreach Resource Center (SORC) outside Kampala, Uganda and hands on ministry with our communities in Nairobi and outside Kampala.  The 475 bike ride from Kenya to Uganda will celebrate and raise funds for the ongoing medical care and ministry at the Nia Davenport Medical Clinic.

Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Passport - All team members will need to have a valid passport to travel to Uganda. If an individual’s passport expires within SIX months of the return date, then he/she needs to plan to renew the passport. Passport information can be found on the US Department of State’s website (https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html)
  2. Yellow fever vaccination certificate - all team members need to receive a yellow fever vaccination as an entry requirement
  3. Visa (to be registered for once flights are booked for the team and yellow fever vaccine is acquired)

Preparation

  1. It is important that you plan to make a visit with your local physician for guidance on medications and vaccinations in relation to your personal health. The trip health requirements/recommendations below are guided by the Center for Disease Control’s suggestions for travelers, which can be found in detail at https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/uganda
  2. Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry (needed at least 8 weeks prior to departure)
  3. A prescription for malaria prevention, which will need to be started prior to leaving and continue after returning home. The prescriptions used most often are Malarone and Doxycycline. Each member’s doctor will provide him or her with the best recommendation.
  4. Recommended vaccinations - Hepatitis A and B, Covid, Typhoid, filled prescription for an antibiotic (typically Ciprofloaxin) for possible stomach troubles
