Thank you for your interest in joining the Mountains for Medicine Mission's Trip this August in Uganda! This missions trip will primarily center on the team of riders who will be biking over 500 miles across Uganda to help raise support for the Nia Davenport Medical Clinic. Besides this bike event, there will be a separate group of people who will stay behind at the Sports Outreach Resource Center and engage in meaningful ministry work.
The budget to attend this trip is $4,250 which includes lodging, food, water, air travel, and other trip expenses.

Below are two brief, separate itineraries for the mission trip: 

Here is the brief itinerary for bike riders and others who will ride via truck with the riders:
August 21: Depart the U.S. 
August 22: Arrive to Uganda and spend overnight at Sports Outreach Resource Center (SORC)
August 23: Prepare for bike ride, build bikes, final rest day.
August 24: Mountains for Medicine Bike event begins! Travel from Kampala to Nakasongola. Spend night at hotel
August 25: Bike from Nakasongola to Gulu. Spend night at Sports Outreach Good News Community Center
August 26: Bike from Gulu to Paraa Lodge. The team will meet the other trip participants who stayed behind in Kampala. 
August 27: Rest day at Paraa Lodge. Go on a safari!
August 28: Bike to Kiboga. Spend the night at a hotel.
August 29: Bike from Kiboga to Kampala. Celebration at SORC
August 30: Day of Ministry at the SORC
August 31: Spend the morning viewing the Katwe Center. Leave for the U.S. in the evening. 

 For those not interested in biking, or traveling with the bike riders, here is a brief, tentative separate itinerary for you.
August 21: Depart the U.S. 
August 22: Arrive to Uganda and spend overnight at Sports Outreach Resource Center (SORC)
August 23: Prepare for bike ride, helping the bikers prepare, touring SORC and engaging with staff. 
August 24: Drive to Katwe Center is the morning and have a day of ministry here. 
August 25: Sunday Worship at the SORC. Potential home visits, and fellowship with Sports Outreach's Good New Team. 
August 26: Drive from SORC to Paraa to meet with the Bikers. 
August 27: Go on a safari with the entire team!
August 28: Drive back to SORC and prepare for the rider's arrrival. 
August 29: Celebration at SORC for the biker's return
August 30: Day of Ministry at the SORC
August 31: Spend the morning viewing the Katwe Center. Leave for the U.S. in the evening. 

When you apply, you will fill out all necessary waivers for the trip. Our team at Sports Outreach will work with the trip leader to provide all necessary travelling accomdations to make the traveling as simple and easy as possible. Please reach out to Daniel Narvaez with any questions!

Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Passport- All team members will need to have a valid passport to travel to Uganda. If an individual’s passport expires within SIX months of the return date, then he/she needs to plan to renew the passport. Passport information can be found on the US Department of State’s website (https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html)
  2. Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  3. Visa (to be registered for once flights are booked for the team and yellow fever vaccine is acquired)

Preparation

  1. t is important that you plan to make a visit with your local physician for guidance on medications and vaccinations in relation to your personal health. The trip health requirements/recommendations below are guided by the Center for Disease Control’s suggestions for travelers, which can be found in detail at https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/uganda
  2. Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry (needed at least 8 weeks prior to departure)
  3. A prescription for malaria prevention, which will need to be started prior to leaving and continue after returning home. The prescriptions used most often are Malarone and Doxycycline. Each member’s doctor will provide him or her with the best recommendation.
  4. Recommended vaccinations- Hepatitis A and B, Covid, Typhoid, filled prescription for an antibiotic (typically Ciprofloaxin) for possible stomach troubles
