This outreach trip will join the Sports Outreach teams in Uganda in their day to day ministry fulfilling our desire to help restore hope and transform lives in both urban and rural communities.  On this trip, the team will engage in

  • ministry at the Sports Outreach Resource Center located outside of Kampala - ministry outreach might include sports programs (soccer, chess, basketball, and others), community outreach through home visits and simple projects, assisting at the medical clinic, helping with projects on the property like farming, gardening, simple construction
  • ministry at the Good News Community Center (Koro Farm) in Gulu - ministry outreach might include sports programs (soccer, chess, basketball, and others), community outreach through home visits and simple projects, spending time with young women at Christine's House, helping with projects on the property like farming, weeding, slashing, etc.
  • Chess programs and home visits in Katwe Chess Academy in Katwe slum in Kampala
  • community outreach and spending time with kids in the Pugwinyi Village outside of Gulu

This experience will push you and challenge you; it will also encourage you and touch your heart and faith in new and exciting ways!

Requirements

Prerequisites

  1. Passport- All team members will need to have a valid passport to travel to Uganda. If an individual’s passport expires within SIX months of the return date (February 17, 2027), then he/she needs to plan to renew the passport. Passport information can be found on the US Department of State’s website (https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports.html)
  2. Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  3. Entry Visa (to be registered for once flights are booked for the team and yellow fever vaccine is acquired)

Preparation

  1. It is important that you plan to make a visit with your local physician for guidance on medications and vaccinations in relation to your personal health. The trip health requirements/recommendations below are guided by the Center for Disease Control’s suggestions for travelers, which can be found in detail at https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/uganda
  2. Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry (needed at least 8 weeks prior to departure)
  3. Recommended medical preparations - vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, filled prescription for an antibiotic (typically Ciprofloaxin) for possible stomach troubles
  4. A prescription for malaria prevention, which will need to be started prior to leaving and continue after returning home. The prescriptions used most often are Malarone and Doxycycline. Each member’s doctor will provide him or her with the best recommendation.
  5. Participate in team meetings.
